Healing Through Compassion
45 years ago I worked with my first sex offender and family. As an in home family therapist I worked with families experiencing some form of child abuse and neglect.
I soon realized graduate school did not prepare me for what I was seeing. Therefore I made a decision to learn from the experts - the abused, the abuser, and the families. They taught me well. I am still learning.
They taught me what worked, and slowly I developed the skills to heal. Addiction, trauma, family healing, I learned from the best.
I had most to learn from abusers because so little was known. And becoming a certified sex offender therapist, I was told they did not know how to affect change in offenders - research indicated no different between control group and treatment group. Recidivism was the same.
I have learned to facilitate healing of offenders, survivors and families. This is the purpose of Healing Arts.
I am available for training and conferences.
Philosophy
Those who suffer sexual pain, feel shame and learn that love hurts. Love heals.
Approach
Compassionate, Skilled, Trusted
Healing Arts believes in addressing the trauma (source of the shame and pain), developing adaptive coping strategies (vs maladaptive), creating love relationships with self, family, and community.
Over 45 years working with the experts - those suffering from sexual pain - has given me the knowledge to facilitate the healing of those suffering from sexual trauma/pain.
